Waterjet Cutting

A waterjet cutter is an industrial tool capable of cutting a wide variety of materials using a very high-pressure jet of water and an abrasive substance. Waterjet cutting is often used during fabrication of machine parts. It is the preferred method when the materials being cut are sensitive to the high temperatures generated by other methods. Waterjet cutting is used in various industries, including mining and aerospace, for cutting, shaping, and reaming.

An important benefit of the Waterjet is the ability to cut material without interfering with its inherent structure, because there is no heat-affected zone (HAZ). Minimizing the effects of heat allows metals to be cut without harming or changing intrinsic properties. Waterjet cutting can reduce the amount of scrap material produced, by allowing uncut parts to be nested more closely together than traditional cutting methods. Waterjets use approximately 0.5 to 1 US gal per minute and the water can be recycled using a closed-loop system.

Materials commonly cut with a Waterjet include textiles, rubber, foam, plastics, leather, composites, stone, tile, glass, ceramics, metals, food, paper and much more. Examples of materials that cannot be cut with a Waterjet are tempered glass, diamonds and certain ceramics.

Our waterjet system is capable of cutting up to 1” thick metals and other materials and with a table size of 72” x 144” and a cutting tolerance of +/- .005” we are able to produce parts with quality finished edges and can even sometimes eliminate the need for machining. Our nesting software allows us to minimizing the material waste which means savings to our customers.
